Success

Success. Everyone loves success… Or don’t you? But even though we work very hard to be successful, success is not 100% guaranteed. This is because there are so many factors beyond our control. We work hard to earn, save and invest, but we don’t control the economy. A farmer works so hard to prepare our farms, cultivate and plant, but they have no control of the weather which means they might not get a full harvest or even any harvest at all.

Don’t you wish there was an area of your life where success was guaranteed? Thankfully there is. In John 15:1-8 Jesus taught His friends what guaranteed success is, how to get it and how to know that you have it. On the night He was betrayed, arrested and later crucified, He taught them that real success is glorifying God by bearing much fruit (John 15:8). No other form of success counts for eternity. He also taught them that the strategy for getting this success (glorifying God by bearing much fruit) is abiding in Christ, that is, remaining, staying, continuing with Christ (John 15:1-6). To abide in Christ is to stay or continue in fellowship with Jesus Christ. Then He told them how to know they have this success. The fruit Jesus taught about in John 15 is love – a meaningful relationship with others. Without love life is meaningless. As someone said, if you are not loving you are not living.

But how do we love others? I like what Rick Warren said: the best way to live is to love, and the best way to love is time. We love by giving our time (our lives) to others through serving them and sharing our lives with them.

Your spiritual success is dependent on who you are connected to and you can have guaranteed success if you connect to Jesus Christ.

Point To Ponder

“People may spend their whole lives climbing the ladder of success only to find, once they reach the top, that the ladder is leaning against the wrong walls .”
